Akumal is a small beach town located on the Caribbean coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, in the state of Quintana Roo. The name “Akumal” means “place of the turtles” in the Mayan language, and the town is known for its beautiful beaches and crystal-clear waters, which provide excellent opportunities for snorkeling and diving.
The main attraction of Akumal is its beautiful beach, which is known for its soft white sand and calm turquoise waters. The beach is home to a large population of sea turtles, which can often be seen swimming in the shallow waters close to shore.
Your tour includes private transportation with pick up at your accommodation spot (Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen or Tuum). Since turtles live in Akumal Bay this tour offers flexibility in terms of pick up time. The tour can begin with pick up at 8 a.m. and finish as late as 4 p.m. The total duration of the tour is around 5 hours, depending on your accommodation spot and its distance to Akumal.
Once we get to Akumal we will take a short 5-minute boat ride to get to the turtles’ area. And then you will be able to explore the fascinating underwater world of the famous turtle bay on a guided leisurely snorkel tour in search of sea turtle species. But that is not it! You will also be able to spot brightly colored tropical fish, the coral reef, rays, and more! We promise, this is an unforgettable experience that you can’t miss during your visit to the Mexican Caribbean!
You are not an experienced snorkeler? Worry not! Your professional guide will make sure you feel safe at all times and ensure you have a lovely time during your snorkeling on the Akumal tour!
Please note that the transportation is private, however once in Akumal you will join a shared boat.
After your amazing snorkeling experience we will make a lunch stop at one of my favorite restaurants in Akumal with stunning ocean front views and delicious food options and great margaritas!
